As I near the date of my one-year anniversary of coming out, my re-birth of sorts, I look back and reflect on the progress that has been made both personally and professionally as an LGBT advocate. I am proud to be engaged to the woman I love and to be planning a wedding for August in a state that will recognize our love.
Every week, millions of LGBT people attend religious services. Some are welcomed with open arms, while others may be attending a church that is actually preaching prejudice and bigotry toward LGBT people.
For a young gay person growing up in America it should be a time of celebration, filled with hope and wonder. Unfortunately, many young gay people face bullying, discrimination, fear and confusion about their sexual identity. It should not be that way.
